Investment—Growth in investment spending on information technology equipment has decelerated but remains healthy in both Canada and the United States. The sub-prime credit crunch has yet to hamper spending on computers and electronic products.

Dollar—The Canadian dollar continues to soar after a brief respite in the winter of 2007. The strong dollar is leading to lower prices for the industry, while simultaneously increasing import competition and making Canadian exports less cost competitive.
