This report represents a Conference Board study on the leadership practices of 400 Fortune 1000 companies. The study asked companies to rate themselves on various aspects of their leadership practices such as overall leadership capacity, training and development, and leader behavior and effectiveness. CEOs, human resource and line executives were also interviewed for their insights and experiences into leadership development practices. Companies participating in the study included: manufacturing, financial, non-financial services, and telecommunications; 73 percent of responding companies were U.S., 16 percent European, 6 percent Canadian, 3 percent Latin American, and 3 percent Asian.
