Balancing Effectiveness and Efficiency describes several foundational components of clinician engagement with the intention of helping various stakeholders improve the effectiveness and efficiency of their organizations’ clinician engagement processes. The report is based on a literature review and interviews with 21 key stakeholders—across Canada and globally—in varying contexts and roles related to clinician engagement. Chapter 1 explains the meaning of value in health care. Chapter 2 discusses the significance of clinician engagement and gives an overview of typical strategies and activities in the clinician engagement space. Chapter 3 explores the strategy considerations for engaging clinicians in the procurement process and presents a general model to describe how clinician engagement can be effectively and efficiently applied. Chapter 4 examines considerations for optimizing clinician engagement. The report concludes (Chapter 5) with some overall recommendations for stakeholders.
