Location: Remote work arrangement within Canada

As a member of the Communications team, you will play role in shaping and crafting the materials that are shared on our external channels. The successful candidate will work closely in a small team environment to help build and support the organization’s reputation through storytelling across multi-channel, strategic communications that support the business plan and targets. This position reports to the Director, Strategic Communications.

In this role you will be responsible for supporting the planning, production, and management of external communications to promote the organization’s strategic priorities and day-to-day insights. This work will include identifying the right channels for storytelling, developing assets, and managing the editorial calendar to ensure alignment across CBoC’s activities for both brand and reputation-building.

We are looking for someone who will act as an expert advisor to our interprofessional teams and thought leaders on strategic activities and will give them insights into which mediums, which messages and why. This individual will ensure news releases and posts are distributed on the right channels, and work with our Manager, Strategic Communications, to plan and manage the editorial rollout.

We are a virtual organization and as a remote worker you must be comfortable and able to work 100 per cent of the time from a home office. To be successful as a remote worker you need to have a self-starter attitude, possess strong organizational and time management skills and be a proactive communicator. Having a home office environment that provides for a productive, professional, and safe work environment during regular working/business hours is a requirement of this role.

About the Role

Some of the things you will do every day:

  • Work with the Director, Strategic Communications and the Research Content team to actively manage the editorial calendar and ensure alignment across teams
  • Work with Knowledge Area and Subject Matter Experts to support content development, providing strategic advice and insight on the types of content that would best support their goals and outputs
  • Develop, review and edit all forms of external communications (e.g. op-eds, news releases, social copy) for both spelling/grammar along with: content, positioning, audience, tone of voice, alignment with CBoC brand and style
  • Manage timelines for delivery of content pieces both internally and externally
  • Proactively identify potential process improvements and efficiencies as well as enhancements to editorial content in support of the communications department
  • Respond to media requests
  • Provide input on media strategies for flagship pieces
  • Support issues-based communications as required
  • Provide support on positioning and content for recurring pieces of research
  • Manage and monitor project schedules
  • Support the development and execution of a Subject Matter Expert-specific campaign
  • Proactively look for opportunities for CBoC to insert its voice and provide suggestions on platforms, pitches, and ideas for how to do this
  • Media training experience an asset, but not required
  • Complete other strategic communications duties as assigned
  • Produce high quality work and demonstrate professional values in all aspects of projects and interactions with colleagues and customers.

About You

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent Diploma and work experience) in communications, journalism, marketing or a related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in corporate communications, journalism, public relations/media relations or agency role
  • Solid grasp of traditional and social media
  • Advanced writing skills, as it relates to media releases, web and social content, blogs, scripts, and presentations
  • Proven track record of success as an effective communicator and advisor with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to multi-task, manage tight deadlines and thrive in a busy, fast-paced environment
  • Strong analytical and organizational and planning skills
  • Demonstrated experience taking strategic plans and translate into actionable, tactical communication programs
  • Ability to work occasional overtime
