John Biles

Acting Senior Director, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC)

John Biles is currently the acting Senior Director of the Settlement Network responsible for resettlement operations. In this role he is responsible for the management and coordination of the delivery of the resettlement assistance program across Canada. He and his team have recently joined the new Afghanistan Settlement Branch under Director General Corinne Prince. From 2013 until early 2021 John held roles as the director or assistant director of Settlement and Integration for the Prairies and Northern Territories Region (PNT). Throughout his career, John has held various positions with the Metropolis Project (an international policy-research network focused on immigration, integration and diversity), and as a Special Advisor to the Director General of the policy branch responsible for settlement. While his interests in settlement, integration and inclusion are fairly eclectic and he has published widely in these broad areas, his interest in how (re)settlement works across Canada from coast to coast to coast has cut across all of his professional experience.

John holds Bachelor’s degrees from McGill and Concordia Universities, a Master’s degree from Carleton University, and a certificate in Nonprofit Management from Mount Royal University.
