Director of EDGE UP, Workforce at Calgary Economic Development

Jeanette Sutherland is the Director of EDGE UP, Workforce at Calgary Economic Development, where she has been responsible for the strategic planning of workforce development initiatives designed to maximize economic development and workforce investment in Calgary.

Jeanette’s background includes strategic market planning, project management, talent attraction and retention, program development, and marketing. Prior to joining CED, Jeanette worked as Regional Workforce Development Manager for a global talent firm where she was responsible for the strategic development, management and implementation of programs designed to overcome skill and employment shortages.

Jeanette has extensive experience working with industry and post-secondary institutions on workforce and economic development. She sits on the Calgary Local Immigration Partnership Council, ICTC Pathways to Employment in ICT for Albertans with Disabilities Advisory Committee, CPAA Funding Request Committee, and SAIT’s Management Program Advisory Committee. She’s been the chair of the Calgary Works Employer Advisory Committee, the Tech Talent Advisory Committee for Calgary, a Manufacturing Advisory Consortium, as well as participated on numerous committees/boards for workforce, diversity and industry. She directs the EDGE UP upskilling program to help displaced mid-career O & G professionals pivot to in demand careers in tech. Jeanette has also directed the Calgary Connector Program to connect youth, Aboriginals and Immigrant Professionals to industry; and the Careers in Calgary program to build workforce capacity. She’s led 7 national and international labour attraction missions and participates in regional workforce strategy sessions with government, education and industry.

Jeanette has supplemented her major studies in Education at the University of Calgary, with training in business, leadership, workforce development, human resources and marketing.
