Three panelists will share their perspective on setting long-term sustainability visions and strategies. Rose Perkins, Associate Director, Sustainability at The Dow Chemical Company and David Redfern, Vice President & General Manager of Lafarge Canada in western Canada, will share their company’s “next generation” sustainability visions and strategies.
They will describe the development process, and the overall transformational sustainability ambitions their companies have set, including the drivers and benefits.
Coro Strandberg, advisor to the Conference Board of Canada and Canadian Business for Social Responsibility on The Transformational Company, will describe this new business trend and how to pursue it in your company. She will share research she has conducted of sustainability leaders and their approach to developing “sustainability stories”.

Rose Perkins is the Associate Director of Sustainability for The Dow Chemical Company. Her responsibilities include developing and deploying business integration and employee engagement sustainability programs across the company. Focused on advancing Dow’s leadership in sustainability through the power of collaboration, Perkins works with Dow business leaders to promote best-practice sharing on sustainable business strategies. She also leads a global network of Dow employees that engage in open dialogue on global sustainability topics inside and outside of Dow.
Prior to Dow’s acquisition of Rohm and Haas in April 2009, she was global manager of Sustainable Development for Rohm and Haas Electronic Materials business, a specialty chemical supplier to the electronics industries. She has more than 25 years of experience in advocating for environmental protection and sustainable development. Perkins received her BS in Chemical Engineering from Northeastern University.
About David
David Redfern is the Senior Vice-President of the Greater Vancouver Market of Lafarge Canada, a large diversified supplier of construction materials including cement, ready-mix concrete, aggregates and asphalt. In addition to his market and operational roles, he has responsibility for rolling out LafargeHolcim’s Sustainability 2030 plan “Building for Tomorrow” in the region, which includes a target that 1/3 of its turnover come from products with enhanced sustainability performance.
David has over twenty years’ experience working for Lafarge in over twenty different countries. He has functional expertise in operating model development, strategic assessment, supply chain management, industrial marketing and product development. He is a signatory to the Minerva Foundation’s CEO pledge to support progress toward diversity, a member of the National Zero Waste Council and co-chair of the Council’s Construction and Demolition Waste Working Group.
