Provincial Outlook Executive Summary: Spring 2015
This quarterly economic forecast provides highlights of the Provincial Outlook report, which presents the short-term outlook for Canada's provinces.
- The Canadian economy did not perform well
over the first few months of the year, but
growth will pick up through the rest of 2015.
- A wind of change is blowing through the
country, as economic growth will be the
strongest in Central Canada, Manitoba, and
British Columbia over the near term.
- Real GDP growth in Atlantic Canada is
expected to pick up. The exception is
Newfoundland and Labrador, where the
economy is being hurt by a drop in
- Deficits will remain a challenge for the
majority of the provincial governments. Only
British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Quebec and
Prince Edward Island are projecting balanced
budgets for 2015–16.
