Leaders set the tone that resonates throughout an organization. Their actions/inactions, their words, their decisions all impact safety outcomes. While leaders may have good intentions, to achieve safety excellence requires leaders to take initiative and exemplify health and safety.
Compliance with Occupational Health and Safety Acts and regulations is required, to be effective, organizations must go above and beyond legislation by excelling in leadership behaviours and activities. In doing so they can create a positive safety culture to ensure the safety of its workforce.
While many organizations aspire to achieve safety excellence in leadership, fewer know how to benchmark themselves and many leaders struggle with how to exhibit the proper leadership behaviours and activities when trying to achieve safety excellence in leadership within their organization. This session includes a broad perspective with representation from industry leaders and academia in advancing safety leadership excellence throughout Canada. These leaders from business and academia through their interactions with employees and students can enhance safety leadership excellence from their behaviours and activities. Failure to take action acts as a barrier towards safety excellence.
