I actually was a "barista with a BA" as well. After I finished my undergrad (years ago), I did not find jobs with a direct link to my degree. The article talks about those skills you learn from a SSH related degree (i.e. critical thinking, cross-cultural understandings, etc.), and those skills are needed in most jobs. It's finding out ways to articulate it, so I totally agree with being connected with your alumni community and such. Starting a linked in group was helpful in this.
