Terrible.
I stopped after page 3. Why? This is why:
"While the system does create more predictability, it also works at cross-purposes to fundamental public interests that are far broader than those of dairy farmers."1
Footnote 1: Given the volumes of information on this topic, this analysis is selective. For example, we do not address food health and safety issues, which would be important factors in a comprehensive assessment of the system.
You ignore what is arguably the most important reason people cite for keeping the current system as is, to instead ignore it, and then conclude that this system protects the Dairy Farmers at the expense of the Consumer. WTF?
Bloody Economists. Always ignoringing reality to make a point that makes no sense in light of EVERYTHING that must be considered to make an accurate assessment. Why bother writing a 38 page paper that ignores crucial arguments to then arrive at a conclusion that could very well be wrong because of that nonsensical choice?
Sigh. |

Thoroughly researched and well written. This article provides insights into the workings of supply management. The arguments about the detriments of supply management were clearly laid out, however one has to ask why this system wasn't abandonned given its anti-competitive nature. The weakness of this paper is the lack of synthesis towards a viable alternative to the poles presented: complete deregulation and the existing monopsony. |
