Swapna Nair is a Senior Economist and the Global Commerce Centre (GCC) lead. As part of the GCC, she leads research on trade, investment, and trade policies within the Conference Board.
Swapna has worked with international institutions, governments and policy institutes across UK, India, Mauritius, UAE, Afghanistan and Iraq on international trade and macroeconomic issues. Previously she has worked with the World Bank in Afghanistan to review their ‘Customs reform and trade facilitation program’ and has been part of the team that authored the Arab stabilization plan for the World Economic Forum in Jordan. She has worked with the Overseas Development Institute (ODI) in the UK on a project to review the services sector trade in Belize. Swapna has also worked with the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) in New Delhi working closely with the Indian government on developing trade policy and with industry stakeholders to develop capacity building. She has presented at the World Trade Organization (WTO) Public forum in Geneva on trade negotiating stances adopted by developing countries.
Swapna holds an MSc in Development Studies from the London School of Economics and Political Science, UK and an MA in Economics from the University of Hyderabad, India.
