Ireen Birungi is the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) at Interac Corp., where she leads the technology and business security strategy and implementation. This includes operationalizing enterprise-wide cybersecurity program that supports continuous improvement; managing security risks through an information security management framework and compliance with legislative and regulatory requirements; reporting and containing security incidents and breaches; identity and access management and privilege access management; and monitoring threats and taking preventative measures.

Ireen has over 20 years of experience helping organizations excel in the areas of cybersecurity, risk and vulnerability management and IT architecture in a variety of industries across and Public, Private and Consulting sector. She began her career in the security operations centre for a major Canadian bank, managing processes around network devices and systems, administering cryptographic keys and conducting vulnerability assessments on varying technologies.

Ireen holds a degree from the University of Toronto and cybersecurity designations: CISSP, CISM, and CRISC and an active member of Evanta (A Gartner Company) CISO community and the International Security Forum (ISF).
