The Conference Board of Canada
October 6, 2017
A snapshot of the Canadian economy for the last six months.
- Although the jobs data showed ongoing strength in full-time employment, the headline jobs number was flat.
- After growing for eight straight months, GDP was flat in July.
- Merchandise exports fell in August, the third consecutive decline, and non-energy exports remained weak.
- The Canadian economy has been growing at the fastest rate in the developed world since the middle of last year, but the signs suggest that its momentum may be beginning to slow.
