Meet the Team

Alison Howard
Alison Howard
Associate Director, Immigration and Education

Alison Howard brings almost two decades of research and convening experience to the position of Associate Director, Immigration and Education. Ms. Howard oversees the Leaders' Roundtable on Immigration which promotes investment in and collaborative action on immigration issues. Alison has conducted extensive research on employability, language and literacy skills, credential recognition, and international education - all of which are important to Canadian labour market outcomes. She also leads the Conference Board's major annual summit on Skills and Post-Secondary Education and other related research and convening activities. Alison's research has also covered privacy issues, corporate community investment, issues in the food and drink sector, and in the culture sector.

Alison is a graduate of the University of Guelph (Masters of Management Studies and Bachelor of Arts).

Matthew McKean
Matthew McKean
Associate Director, Education

Matthew McKean is Associate Director of Education at the Conference Board of Canada. He directs the research program and leads stakeholder relations for the Centre for Skills and Post-Secondary Education, a major five-year initiative that examines the advanced skills and education challenges facing Canada today. The Centre examines important themes and issues in post-secondary education from a pan-Canadian perspective and is building inclusive, cross-sectoral national platforms that aim to address the future of work and the drivers of change in the educational landscape. As Manager of the Quality Network for Universities, Matthew also leads the Conference Board's long-standing and distinguished executive network of university provosts and vice-presidents from across Canada.

Prior to joining the Conference Board, Matthew worked in policy at the Canadian Federation for the Humanities and Social Sciences. He holds a PhD in History from Queen's University, Kingston, and is an Adjunct Research Professor in the Department of History at Carleton University. Matthew writes for a wide audience on a diverse range of topics. His writing has appeared in The Globe & Mail, National Post, The Toronto Star, The Ottawa Citizen, The Hill Times,, Popmatters, Exclaim!, and This Magazine. He is a board member of the Ottawa International Writer's Festival and was recently appointed to the National Advisory Committee for the Prime Minister's Awards for Excellence in Education.

Eleni Kachulis
Eleni Kachulis
Research Associate, Education and Strategic Initiatives

Eleni is a Research Associate in the Education and Strategic Initiatives group. In addition to supporting research projects for the Centre for Skills and Post-Secondary Education, she also contributes to custom research projects and provides research and writing support for the Conference Board's Saskatchewan Institute.

Prior to joining the Board, Eleni worked as a Corporate Governance Officer at the Office of the Commissioner of Official Languages, where she developed internal policies and procedures to support the organization's security program. She has also held positions at Statistics Canada, Health Canada, and the First Nations Statistical Institute. Eleni holds a Bachelor of Humanities (Honours) from Carleton University and a Master of Public Administration from Queen's University.
