Canadian Outlook Economic Forecast: Summer 2010
The Conference Board of Canada, 76 pages,
July 29, 2010
This quarterly economic forecast provides highlights of the Canadian Outlook report, which presents the short-term national outlook.
- Momentum in Canada’s economic recovery continued into the first quarter—propped up by strong consumer and government spending, and by businesses restocking inventories.
- Fiscal stimulus—especially infrastructure spending—will continue to contribute to economic growth this year. But next year and beyond, federal and provincial governments
will pull back hard on the reins of spending.
- The U.S. economy is also forging ahead, but stronger job growth and a recovery in consumer confidence will be key to sustaining growth into 2011.
- The European debt crisis and mixed signs among recent economic indicators have
added to market jitters and volatility. The Bank of Canada will keep to its path of monetary tightening.
