The monthly Index of Consumer Confidence is constructed from responses to four attitudinal questions posed to a random sample of Canadian households.

Document Highlights

The Index of Consumer Confidence rose slightly in August, as Canadians became much more optimistic about their future finances. This optimism could be short-lived, however. High debt loads and an uncertain world could challenge Canadians’ confidence moving forward. Regardless, whether short-lived or not, the positive view about the future is good news for the Canadian economy.
