The Conference Board of Canada, 12 pages
March 26, 2015
This report examines the short-and medium-term economic and profitability outlook for Canada’s Residential Construction Industry.
- Mortgage Rates—The Bank of Canada’s interest rate cut in January
caused major banks to lower their mortgage rates again.
- Uncompleted Condos—The number of condos under construction but not
completed continued to rise in 2014, while starts and completions stagnated.
This suggests builders are delaying delivery of the new units.
- Labour Market—The Canadian economy added only 110,000 jobs last
year, the second smallest increase in more than 20 years, after only the
recession year of 2009.
