This report examines the short-and medium-term economic and profitability outlook for Canada’s Gas Extraction Industry. Document Highlights Revenues—Industry revenues have contracted rapidly as a result of the one-two punch of low regional natural gas prices and depressed world crude oil prices (the latter affect prices for natural gas liquids). Global LNG Market Competition—Canadian liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports are not expected to materialize in a significant fashion in the coming years, given competing projects around the world and delays and setbacks for BC’s leading projects. LPG Export Prospects—Export project proposals for Canadian liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) (i.e., propane) continue to go forward and may provide a potential “in” for access to growing Asian markets.
