A snapshot of the Canadian economy for the last six months.

Document Highlights

The latest data releases from Statistics Canada showed that the economy grew quickly in the first month of 2017. This was encouraging for economists, who expected 2017 to be a stronger year for Canada than the past two years. A week later, March’s jobs numbers came out and showed that employment had grown for the seventh time in eight months. In between those two releases, though, Statistics Canada came out with disappointing trade figures for February that dampened expectations.
