Mandate

“[The] aim is to contribute to health and health care in the U.K. and internationally, by conducting research on economic aspects of health and disease, the costs and benefits of prevention and treatment, and the design and evaluation of health systems.”

Activities

In addition to the research, there is “an active teaching and training program, including undergraduate lectures, teaching and supervision of MSc and DPhil students, and a wide range of short courses, workshops, and presentations.” Two health economics courses are open to external participants: Introduction to Health Economic Evaluation and Applied Methods of Cost-Effectiveness Analysis.

Research at the Centre for Health Economics (CHE) “is designed to provide analytical frameworks and evidence to support [the difficult decisions of health care]. CHE operates across all areas of the discipline, with a particular emphasis on methodological thinking and high policy impact.”

CHE’s research covers seven broad themes: “economic evaluation of health technologies, econometric methods, health care financing, expenditure and purchasing, health system design and reform, performance assessment, population health, equity in health and health care.”
