The monthly Metropolitan Housing Starts publication provides the recent trends in housing starts for 29 metropolitan areas and expectations for starts over both the short and long term.
- There are five CMAs with both positive short- and long-term expectations, two fewer than last month.
- Seven CMAs, including Oshawa, Toronto, and Hamilton, now have negative expectations for both the short and and the long term.
- The CMAs with the biggest year-over-year declines in housing starts in April were Regina, Calgary, Edmonton, Hamilton, and Saskatoon.
- Thunder Bay had the biggest year-over-year increase in housing starts last month, the second month in a row.
