Amanda Daoust, and governance experts Lois Nahirney and Bill Hatanaka, present a a 60-minute panel discussion on the state of diversity in Canadian boardrooms. Together, they:
- Examine key findings from a decade of research on boardroom diversity in Canada.
- Identify common barriers to increasing board diversity and what can be done to overcome them.
- Explore what makes a truly diverse board.
- Receive suggestions on how to become more deliberate in accelerating board diversity.
- Consider the role individual directors can play in advocating for greater diversity.
About the Annual Report Card
The Canadian Board Diversity Council's Annual Report Card provides a snapshot of corporate board diversity in Canada. This project, initially started in 2010, provides historical views and measures the pace of change for diversity on FP500 boards.
About Amanda
Amanda Daoust is a Network and Research Officer at the Conference Board of Canada. As part of her role, Amanda carries out research in the governance compliance and risk area. She has been leading the research for the Canadian Board Diversity Council’s Annual Report Card for the past two years.
In addition, Amanda leads the Governance Webinar Series which focuses on key issues facing boards of directors and features global industry though-leaders.
About Lois
Dr. Lois Nahirney is the Founder, President and CEO of dnaPower Inc. and SkinDNA Canada Inc. Lois has been the Executive Vice President, Corporate Resources for Teekay Corporation and a senior executive with BC Hydro, Crystal Decisions and Fletcher Challenge. She has a Doctorate of Business Administration, is a CBDC Fellow in Board Governance and was selected for Canada’s Diversity 50 board list. She has experience with over 25 public, private and non-profit boards.
Lois is passionate about diversity and advancing women in business. She is Co-Chair of the Women’s Executive Network, Co-Founder and Co-Chair of WE for SHE, former Chair of the BC Premier’s Women’s Economic Council, and board member of Vietnam Education Society, a family charity that builds schools in Vietnam and sends girls at high-risk of being trafficked to summer camps and school on scholarships.
About Bill
Bill Hatanaka is a corporate director, serving on the board of ICE NGX, the Invesco Canada Fund Advisory Board/IRC, and on the Independent Review Committee for RP Investment Advisors.
Bill is the former President and CEO of OPTrust, a defined benefit pension plan jointly sponsored by the government of Ontario and the Ontario Public Service Employees Union. Prior to this, he served as Group Head of Wealth Management, TD Bank Group. He also served as the inaugural Chair of the Bank’s Diversity Leadership Council.
