Not making the right decisions around socially responsible investments can liquidate trust, financial stability and corporate reputation. This statement is not new. Learning from corporate failures in different industries and varying thought domains, though, can enhance conversations and mitigation strategies.

Webinar Highlights

Expectations as to what is “responsible” are changing, thanks to the SDGs and also the ever increasing spread of social media. Not making the right decisions around socially responsible investments can liquidate trust, financial stability and corporate reputation. These statements are not new. Learning from corporate failures in different industries and varying thought domains, though, can enhance conversations and mitigation strategies. Join Dr. Gordon as she uses the natural resource sector (mining) as an example on how ERM and CSR can align together to make better informed decisions. She shares key insights from the 2019 UK conference on responsible investing, where several different stakeholders were engaged to define and explore:

  • how traditional ethical investments may have unintended consequences;
  • what data to use for metrics given the interconnected complexity of social behaviour and expectations around being responsible
  • approaches/frameworks to better incorporate human, social, environmental and governance factors into risk decisions;
  • how leaders can initiate truly difficult conversations with senior leadership—the ones that decide human rights, human life, cultural differences, environmental invasions vs risk and reward/profit; and
  • how these conversations could be framed and addressed through risk appetite.
