This “fiscal snapshot” looks at the state of Manitoba’s economy and its government’s fiscal challenges, and provides a short- and medium-term outlook for the province.
Document Highlights
- Revenue growth is expected to outpace Manitoba’s budget projections thanks to higher federal transfers in the form of equalization payments.
- Budget 2018 presented a plan to tightly limit program spending over the next three years. If achieved, this will mark the most ambitious spending restraint in the province in over two decades.
- If the province achieves its difficult spending targets, and if revenues rise in pace with the Conference Board’s expectations, the government should be able to balance its budget well ahead of its 2023–24 target.
