This “fiscal snapshot” looks at the state of Quebec’s economy and its government’s fiscal challenges, and provides a short- and medium-term outlook for the province.

Document Highlights

  • Healthy household consumption levels helped to lift growth in the Quebec economy to 1.6 per cent in 2016.
  • Thanks mainly to spending restraint, the government will remain balanced in fiscal 2016–17 and will continue to make its promised payments to the Generations Fund (which is used to pay down the provincial debt) for the second consecutive year.
  • Quebec is not expected to fall back into deficit between now and the end of the forecast period in 2019.
