In The Conference Board of Canada’s latest survey of business leaders, business confidence continued its recovery from its lowest level on record last April. Despite the improvement, business sentiment remains well below its pre-pandemic level. This is a concerning development considering that, heading into this year, the Index had already been hovering at its lowest level since the financial crisis over a decade ago. With the Canadian and global economies on their long journey to recovery from the pandemic, the results of the survey were not surprising. Business leaders are still pessimistic about whether their firms’ fortunes will improve over the next six months.
