Metropolitan housing starts: April 2020

April 21, 2020
The monthly Metropolitan housing starts publication provides the recent trends in housing starts for 29 metropolitan areas and expectations for starts over both the short and long term.
- There are five census metropolitan areas (CMAs) with both positive short- and long-term expectations, one fewer than last month.
- The coronavirus pandemic could cause some risk to the positive expectations in the short term. People are likely to delay buying as they self-isolate and are faced with lower investment values that could be used for down payments.
- Most CMAs have negative long-term expectations.
