Highlights

Global Economy Losing Momentum—Tightening of the United States’ monetary policy could be the precursor of a global economic slowdown, with the IMF recently downgrading its forecast for 2019. Fortunately, there is now much greater certainty around the future of North American trade, as the Canada–United States–Mexico Agreement has been signed.

Bombardier’s Business Jet Strategy—Bombardier announced a major restructuring this fall, with a global workforce reduction of 5,000 employees and the selling of its Q Series regional aircraft program. The company’s plan is to focus on its most profitable segment: business jets. Although demand for business aircraft is robust, it is also highly vulnerable to business cycle fluctuations.

Vision 2025—Industry executives came together in fall 2018 to kick-start Vision 2025. This initiative’s goal is to develop a comprehensive strategy and roadmap to ensure the industry’s long-term success amid growing international competition and competitiveness concerns.
