2018 Event

The annual Canadian Immigration Summit brings stakeholders from across the country to convene to discuss innovative, practical, and actionable solutions to strengthen Canada’s immigration system. 2018 was an opportunity to network with over 400 leading representatives from government, business, immigration law and consulting, education, non-profits, and immigration serving organizations.

The 2018 Summit focused on two major, related themes: Growing Canada’s economy and strengthening Canada’s settlement programs. Due to an aging population and low birth rate, Canada is increasingly relying on immigrants to spur economic growth. This supports the key question: How can Canada better harness the skills of its newcomers to enhance immigration’s economic benefits? The Summit answered this by looking at how Canada can maintain a strong settlement program that equips newcomers with the tools they need to thrive in Canada’s economy and society.

The Summit tackled the top immigration issues, including the federal growth agenda and the steps to take to spur inclusive growth; strengthening the business community’s role in immigration; meeting Canada’s labour market needs; the provincial nominee program; the private sponsorship of refugees program; the settlement program; and how global events are impacting Canada and how Canada is impacting the world.
