Doing business in today’s world can be deadly. If past trends continue to hold, almost half of the new companies started in Canada will be gone in the next five years. The reason? Business environments are getting more diverse, dynamic and unpredictable, and yesterday’s strategies are unlikely to ensure future success.

Martin Reeves, Senior Partner at BCG and Director of the BCG Henderson Institute, argues that companies need not only focus on the question “How can I win this game”, but also “How can I extend the game”?

Nature can give us clues on how to answer these questions. In this webinar, Martin will translate the lessons of resilience and longevity from nature into practical and meaningful guidelines for boards and senior executives. These unique insights are derived from research conducted with National Medal of Science winner Prof. Simon Levin (Princeton). The presentation will show how three structural principles of long-term survival in the wild (diversity, modularity, redundancy) can be applied to strategy, management and oversight (prudence, adaptation, embeddedness). Boards of directors are charged with ensuring the overall success of the organizations to which they serve. This webinar will provide directors with insight into the key survival attributes needed to help create sustained success.

Webinar Highlights

In this 60 minute webinar, Martin will dive deeper into:

  • The ever changing environment of business, which is getting more dynamic, diverse and interconnected;
  • What principles and mechanisms natural systems have evolved to ensure resilience and longevity;
  • What companies can do to flourish sustainably, by incorporating these principles;
  • How biological thinking (as opposed to mechanics thinking) can help companies thrive in competitive marketplaces.
  • The implications for corporate governance and the role of boards.
