In the interest of supporting and informing this critical and historic debate, the Conference Board of Canada, together with its Canadian Alliance for Sustainable Health Care (CASHC) are launching the National Pharmacare Initiative (NPI), a series featuring policy research, analysis, education and deliberative dialogue. The initiative is designed to evolve in tandem with the work of the national Advisory Council on the Implementation of National Pharmacare over the next year.
NPI will be led by a pan-Canadian Steering Committee representing a cross-section of senior leaders from government, CASHC member organizations, patient and provider organizations, and industry. The initiative will be chaired by Fred Horne, senior policy consultant and former Alberta Minister of Health.
The objectives of this initiative are:
- To inform a National Pharmacare Strategy for Canada;
- To create a neutral forum for thought-leaders and stakeholders to discuss the issues, opportunities, and core principles for National Pharmacare;
- To discuss the key elements of a pharmacare program that need to be addressed; and
- Provide recommendations on a national pharmacare strategy that takes into consideration the core principles and research evidence.
