The 2017 event focused on the power of inclusion, and the difference between diversity and inclusion. The conference started with a blessing by Dr. Debby Wilson Danard, Anishinaabe Traditional Knowledge Practitioner and Life Promotion Ambassador. Throughout the conference, the speakers shared insight and anecdotes about diversity and inclusion in their organizations or personal experience. The resounding messages that our speakers shared was that diversity and inclusion should be built into the core values of your business, and not handled off the side of your desk.
Some of the key messages our speakers shared at our 2017 event:
“Meet your people where they are, but don’t let them stay there.”
—Ruchi Jalla, Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer, BAE Systems Inc.
“If you want to know why things are the way they are, you have to understand where they came from and how they got there.”
—Senator Murray Sinclair, Former Chair, Indian Residential Schools Truth and Reconciliation Commission
“Our world view influences whether we choose judgement and fear, or curiosity and acceptance.”
—Mary-Frances Winters, President and CEO, The Winters Group Inc.
“Inclusion is not only a noun, it’s also a verb.”
—Steve Hanamura, President, Hanamura Consulting
We’d like to thank our generous sponsors for their contribution to this event.
