This “fiscal snapshot” looks at the state of Manitoba’s economy and its government’s fiscal challenges, and provides a short- and medium-term outlook for the province.

Document Highlights

  • Manitoba is still feeling the effects of the global recession, which left the province with a deficit of $522 million in 2013–14.
  • Steady economic growth, above the national average, will help revenues increase at a consistent pace over the next three fiscal years.
  • Attaining the expected surplus in 2016–17, announced in Budget 2014, will be not be easy but it should be possible if spending targets can be met.
