Strategic Organization Design Workshops
What does “VUCA” mean? And how does it impact our organizations? VUCA—volatile, uncertain, chaotic and ambiguous—has been used to describe the global business environment of recent years requiring organizations to renew their corporate strategy and direction in order to remain relevant and competitive. A priority for leaders today is the knowledge and ability to critically assess their organization’s structure, systems and processes to ensure agility and alignment with changing strategy and business priorities.
This workshop will provide practical organization design models and tools to enable business leaders to review, assess and design their organizations for high performance. This session will engage leaders in a discussion on Organizational Design trends and provide insights into organization design concepts, models and frameworks, taking into consideration the required governance and management practices and the implications for their organization.
During the workshop we will:
- Explore practical tools that optimize design
- Share the how to’s in optimizing organization design from the context of your current and future strategy and business model
- Unveil what drives the need for better organization design options
- Discuss what the impact is on organizational effectiveness
- Leverage practical examples to share insights on the context of different organizational design models
- Engage in an organizational case study, applying relevant theories, to select and evaluate organization design alternatives
- Participate in a conversation on the keys to implementation success
- Discover key components of your organization's design
- Learn how implementation and change considerations impact organizational design or re-design

Donna leads the Leadership and Organization research and advisory services practice area with The Conference Board of Canada. She has worked with leaders in the areas of organization design, change management, governance and leadership development. Donna has also worked as both a manager and internal consultant with a strong focus on engaging impacted individuals in the organization design and change management process. She has consulted to organizations across the private, public and crown corporation sectors. Donna holds a Masters in Human Systems Intervention from Concordia University, a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Trent University, a post-graduate diploma in Human Resource Management and certification as a Personal and Professional Coach.

Ian leads the Ottawa Talent Strategy Practice and Canadian Public Sector industry vertical with Mercer Canada, specializing in organization design, governance effectiveness, organizational transformation, and performance management. He has consulted to organizations on conceptual and detailed organization design and change across the financial services, healthcare, crown corporation, utility and public sectors. Ian has an MBA from Western University and a Master’s in Industrial Relations from the University of Toronto. Ian sits on the Board of Directors of the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario [CHEO] and is the former Chair and Board member at the Ottawa YM/YWCA. He has also taught executive, graduate and undergraduate business courses on high performance organizations, HR governance and strategy, and organization design.
