Energy/Environment

Canada’s Electricity Infrastructure: Building a Case for Investment

This report analyzes the current state of Canadian electricity infrastructure and determines the level of future investment required by 2030 to meet electricity needs. It looks at provincial investment plans in electricity generation, transmission, and distribution and compares them with future electricity demand and export plans. (April 2011)

Profiling the Contribution of Ethanol to Canada’s Transportation Fuel Mix

This report examines the potential for increasing the use of ethanol as transportation fuel in Canada, based on an extensive literature survey, expert consultations, and the findings of a stakeholder workshop. It addresses the impact of ethanol production and use, including greenhouse gas emissions, as well as issues related to air pollution, water use, and land use. (October 2011)

The Economic and Employment Impacts of Climate-Related Technology Investments

This report examines the economic and employment impacts of climate-related technology investments in Canada. Analysis is based on anticipated government investments and matching private sector investments from 2010 to 2014. Do technology investments play an effective role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions? Where are the greatest impacts? Which provinces are leaders in technology investment? The report answers these and other questions. (May 2010)

Transportation and Infrastructure

Connecting Jobs and People: Exploring the Wider Benefits of Urban Transportation Investments

This report examines the quantitative benefits of transportation planning services, as well as some policies that have undermined urban transit efficiency. The report features a series of case studies of employer office relocations in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area, demonstrating how these employers have struck a balance between the benefits of access to public transportation for current and potential employees and the costs associated with their location choices. (August 2011)
