Joe Haimowitz
 | | Joe Haimowitz Principal Economist | Joseph Haimowitz is a career economist with broad academic and business experience in Canada and the U.S. Dr. Haimowitz . Since joining the Conference Board in 2006, he has focused on econometric modelling challenges, especially the financial markets outlook portion of the Conference Board’s medium term national forecast. In addition he has been involved in a wide variety of projects covering such diverse topics as the economic value of standardization, assessing the economic impact of research and development spending in Canada, analyzing the cuture sector’s economic impact and labour market, developing a forecasting model for Ontario’s physician human resource requirements and assessing the productivity and competitiveness of the western Canada.
Prior to joining the Conference Board, Dr. Haimowitz taught at several universities and community colleges including the Avila University in Kansas City, Missouri, Johnson County Community College, Kansas and Longview Community College, Missouri. He has taught Economics and Statistical Analysis at both the undergraduate and MBA levels.
Before his teaching career, he advised senior executives in the Federal Reserve System on macroeconomic issues, on economic forecasts and monetary policy. Dr. Haimowitz’s research has appeared in the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City’s Working Paper series and two of his research studies, The Longevity of Expansions and Has the Surge in Computer Spending Fundamentally Changed the Economy were published in the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City’s Economic Review.
Dr. Haimowitz earned his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of California, San Diego in 1995. His dissertation is titled: Empirical Investigations into the Dynamics of Price Adjustment.
