The Business Economics of Pro Sports
Written by two economists, Power Play looks at the business and economics of professional sports in Canada. Using economic analysis and statistics, this book defines what is required to make a pro sports franchise work in Canada and why some franchises fail. It also looks at which cities are able to support professional sports franchises, based on population size, wealth, and geographic locations—and which ones will be unable to attract or hold on to a pro sports franchise. In particular, the book looks at the economics of the National Hockey League, Major League Baseball, the Canadian Football League, and the National Basketball Association.
