Internal Consulting Skills for the Strategic Business Partner Workshop

Tuesday, September 26 - The Conference Board of Canada - 255 Smyth Rd - Ottawa, ON

In a time of increasingly fast-past and complex change, organizational leaders are looking to internal functional specialists to play a more strategic and proactive role in their organizations.  With the evolution of the strategic business partner role, traditional corporate services functions such as HR, Finance, IT, and Learning and Development are becoming more closely aligned to the business. This new role requires a broader set of skills, competencies and tools to enhance relationship building and provide strategic, value-added advice, service and solutions.

This interactive workshop will provide an overview of the strategic business partner role and the key competencies required to engage and support corporate leaders for enhanced organizational performance.  The workshop will introduce participants to the internal consulting process and will focus on the key tools and approaches needed to build this skill set internally and enhance strategic business partnering success.

During the workshop, you will have an opportunity to:

  • Explore the transition from functional specialist to strategic business partner;
  • Gain an understanding of the internal consultant role and key elements of the consulting process;
  • Learn how to build a trusted advisory relationship and “contract” with internal clients;
  • Discuss the trend to evidence-based decision making and how to provide your internal clients with the information needed to enhance performance outcomes;
  • Participate in interactive discussions and exercises to build your consulting acumen and tool kit;
  • Reflect on the role of the strategic business partner in your own organization and discuss how to enhance and expand the role to increase value to your clients and improve organizational performance.

Who Should Attend

  • Current business partners
  • Specialists transitioning into to a more strategic partnering role
  • Anyone interested in enhancing their consulting skill set
