Roundtable on Socio-Economic Determinants of Health

Click to view a larger versionDeveloping insights and engaging business toward a healthy and prosperous Canada.

The purpose of the Roundtable on Socio-Economic Determinants of Health is to stimulate collaborative approaches to achieving better health outcomes for Canadians. Collaborative approaches -- often involving business-government partnerships -- are worth studying and replicating as they inspire more effective strategies for addressing the underlying comprehensive causes of disease and illness.

Experience and evidence informs us that improved health can lead to improved productivity and economic growth. The Roundtable makes the case for why businesses that care about their bottom lines should care about the comprehensive well-being of their work force and their communities.

Members of the Roundtable seek to:

  1. Research: Build insights through research and dialogue about successful policies and practices that address socio-economic determinants of health.
  2. Collaboration: Promote collaboration among business, governments and other organizations by identifying solutions to health challenges that they can jointly undertake for maximum impact.
  3. Communication: Provide a forum for learning that draws on the experience and knowledge of members as well as Conference Board experts and invited speakers.
  4. Government Action: Determine priority areas and identify opportunities for the Roundtable to provoke government action.
  5. Private Sector and Employer Action: Communicate with employers and business groups to help them influence public policy and to inspire business action.
