Conference Board of Canada Recognized as an Employer of Choice

February 7, 2012

The Conference Board of Canada has won recognition as one of the National Capital Region’s Top Employers for 2012, an annual competition organized by the editors of Canada’s Top 100 Employers. This is the Conference Board’s third win in the past five years.

The Conference Board’s selection was based on information provided through an application process undertaken by Human Resources last May, together with research undertaken by Mediacorp Canada Inc.

This recognition as a top employer strengthens the Board’s ability to attract and retain high-calibre talent who will enable our continued success.

Skill shortages are top of mind for many employers. As a result, organizations must constantly re-evaluate and fine-tune what makes them attractive to employees. This recognition as a top employer strengthens the Board’s ability to attract and retain high-calibre talent who will enable our continued success.

Benchmark Keeps Going Up

Part of the Conference Board’s mission is to create and share insights on organizational performance through our research and networks. This mission inherently raises the bar for our own HR practices. Though the Conference Board is Canada’s largest independent research organization, we are a relatively small group of just under 200 employees.

According to the results of our 2011 Employee Satisfaction Survey, the key factors that help us retain employees are a flexible work environment, the challenging and interesting work offered at the Board, and the opportunity to work alongside a stimulating and collegial workforce.

The Conference Board has a competitive total compensation package, which includes a variable pay program and a group RRSP program. We emphasize employee wellness initiatives; in addition to various sports teams and on-site massage therapy, we offer an annual fitness allowance for employees. One of our eco-friendly practices is to provide free public transit passes for employees—a much-coveted benefit.

We take great pride in our mission, which is to “build leadership capacity for a better Canada.”

The Conference Board of Canada is an active and charter member of the Ottawa-based Employer Council of Champions. This organization speaks with a collective voice for employers, helping them successfully integrate skilled immigrants into Ottawa’s economy and community.

The Board delights in this recognition as a top employer and we take great pride in our mission, which is to “build leadership capacity for a better Canada.”
