Senior Research Associate, Organizational Effectiveness & Learning Research

Overview

The Organizational Effectiveness & Learning (OEL) research group provides decision-makers in the private, public and not-for-profit sectors with knowledge and insights on key issues in the area of organizational excellence, education and learning, and strategic human resource management. We are seeking a Senior Research Associate who has a breadth of applied research experience and who will bring exceptional writing skills, intellectual curiosity and passion and commitment to a culture that values high quality, creativity and thought leadership.

Reporting to the Associate Director, the Senior Research Associate will be part of a professional research team and will undertake research on a broad range of topics in the areas of emerging management challenges and practices, organizational development and effectiveness, strategic human resource management trends, and innovation through learning and workplace learning outcomes.
This is a permanent full-time position located in Ottawa and is available immediately.

Characteristics

The successful candidate will have the ability to think strategically and respond quickly to multiple priorities and deadlines. As a Senior Researcher, you will be expected to conceptualize strategic research issues, conduct major research projects utilizing your experience with qualitative and quantitative research methodologies, and produce high quality written work. Advanced written communication skills and strong project management skills in addition to a strong customer service orientation and an inquisitive mind are essential.

Principal Duties

  • Produce high quality, well written research reports, executive summaries, articles, and proposals.
  • Undertake research projects of varying complexity on new and emerging issues in organizational effectiveness/development and strategic human resource management.
  • Conduct research applying appropriate qualitative and/or quantitative research methodologies.
  • Analyze and quickly translate complex research results into key messages for senior executives and decision makers; write high quality reports and media-friendly articles on a broad range of topics.
  • Manage projects to ensure deliverables are on-time, within budget and meet client expectations.
  • Speak intelligently on a breadth of issues, providing insights to customers through presentations at conferences and business meetings.
  • Deliver excellence in product and customer service.
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders and customers at all levels.
  • Conceptualize new research opportunities and projects.
  • Quickly familiarize yourself with Conference Board research in immediate and related knowledge areas.

Skills & Qualifications

  • A masters degree in the humanities, sociology, organizational development or a related discipline.
  • 6+ years of experience in a professional research environment with responsibility for handling complex projects from inception to completion.
  • Demonstrated understanding of quantitative and qualitative research methodologies including: literature reviews, interviews, case studies, surveys, and quantitative data analysis.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Ability to write clearly, concisely and quickly; published work would be an asset.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
  • Ability to communicate research findings to all levels of internal and external stakeholders and audiences.
  • Proficiency in the use of computers in an MS Office environment.
  • Bilingualism would be an asset.
