The monthly Metropolitan Housing Starts publication provides the recent trends in housing starts for 28 metropolitan areas and expectations for starts over both the short and long term.

  • There are seven CMAs with both positive short- and long-term expectations, two fewer than last month.
  • Toronto has negative short- and long-term expectations.
  • The CMAs with the biggest year-over-year declines in housing starts in August were Sherbrooke, Moncton, Greater Sudbury, St. John’s, and Montréal.
  • Trois-Rivières had the biggest year-over-year increase in housing starts last month.
