Canada does a great job of promoting and exporting its natural resources. However, we have not yet fully grasped the potential of selling high-value services in global markets. To boost our opportunities in the rapidly-growing area of services trade, businesses and governments alike need to understand where we are already successful, what opportunities are out there, and what barriers stand in the way of success in international markets.

The United States is Canada’s main market for services exports, just as it is for goods. Recent Conference Board research indicates that Canada’s potential for services exports is limitless, especially in emerging markets with huge populations, rising standards of living and more middle-class consumers. So how can we take advantage of these opportunities?
