Document Highlights

  • This year, overnight travel to Vancouver is projected to increase 4.1 per cent, thanks to strong growth in convention-related travel, as well as travel from international markets, particularly overseas markets.
  • Looking forward, tourism activity in Toronto is expected to get a solid boost by hosting major events, including the Pan Am Games in 2015 and the 2016 NBA All-Star Game.
  • Better days are also projected for Québec Citys overnight travel market, thanks to the opening of the new Québec City Amphitheatre and the citys hosting of the Winter World Masters Games in early 2015.
  • Overnight visits to Montréal will get a boost next year from the citys co-hosting of the FIFA Womens World Cup and World Junior Hockey Championship tournaments.
  • Tourism activity in Winnipeg is projected to ramp up with the recent opening of the Museum of Human Rights, co-hosting the FIFA Womens World Cup in 2105, and hosting the Canada Games in 2017.
  • In 2017, overnight visits to Ottawa should see strong growth, thanks to solid growth in convention-related activity and the hosting of events related to the 150th anniversary of Confederation.
