The Conference Board of Canada’s Help-Wanted Index is an indicator of the number of new jobs advertised online. Our empirical analysis has shown that variations in the number of jobs posted online are generally followed by similar variations in employment in the ensuing months. Thus, the index can be used to predict near-term employment trends.

Document Highlights

The Help-Wanted Index declined in September, falling 3.1 points to 125. It was the second consecutive monthly decline and the fourth this year.

Useful information. Would like to see tables for each province as well, rather than just the text summary.

Although both indexes are trending up, it is difficult to see the short term correlation on the graph. Perhaps if a longer term chart was included it would make the analysis more meaningful.
