Help-Wanted Index

The Conference Board recently adjusted the data collection methodology to reflect changing labour market trends. Previously, the data series were based on job postings data collected from a relatively fixed list of job boards from 2007 onward. Because some job boards decline in popularity over time and others are created, we now allow the list of job boards to vary from month to month, thereby providing a more complete representation of the number of job postings across the economy. The number of job boards since 2010 has remained in the range of 130–135. Job boards may be excluded from the data collection process if their inclusion negatively affects the ability of the Help-Wanted Index to predict the near-term change in employment.
