Canada’s Motor Vehicle Parts Manufacturing Industry: Industrial Outlook Spring 2009

This report offers a detailed five-year forecast of Canada’s Motor Vehicle Parts Manufacturing Industry.

Report by Sabrina Browarski
The Conference Board of Canada, 10 pages, June 2009

Document Highlights:
  • U.S. Recession—Motor vehicle sales in the United States will remain very weak as consumers retrench from the global financial crisis. Weak sales will hurt demand for Canadian parts.
  • Assembler Solvency—The restructuring of Chrysler and General Motors under Chapter 11 bankruptcy presents ongoing challenges to the viability of the major auto manufacturers. Ongoing input cost savings will be expected from auto parts suppliers.
  • Business Model Risk—The just-in-time production model will allow vehicle assemblers to offload production costs to motor vehicle parts manufacturers.
