Canada's Residential Construction Industry: Industrial Outlook Winter 2008
Report by Valérie Poulin
February 2008, Source: The Conference Board of Canada, 9 pages

The Canadian Industrial Outlook Service includes detailed five-year forecasts in 16 key Canadian industries. The report examines the short- and medium-term economic and profitability outlooks for these industries.

Document Highlights:
  • Material Prices—Pushed up by high global demand for commodities and resources, material prices will grow faster than output prices, harming the industry’s profit margin.
  • Young Adults Living at Home—Past tightness in rental markets combined with increased costs for higher education has amplified the phenomenon of young adults staying home longer, reducing demand for housing.
  • Renovations—The strength of existing home sales coupled with double-digit resale price growth is supporting spending on home renovations.
