2008 Recipient—Stephen Snyder

Calgary, October 31 — Stephen G. Snyder, President and Chief Executive Officer of TransAlta Corporation, will receive The Conference Board of Canada’s highest honour, the Honorary Associate Award, on Monday, November 3, 2008.

Alberta Premier Ed Stelmach will introduce Mr. Snyder and make the presentation at the Conference Board’s 28th Annual General Meeting and 2008 Honorary Associate Award Dinner, being held at the Hyatt Regency Calgary.

“Steve Snyder is being honoured for his distinguished business career and his exemplary leadership in the Calgary community,” said Anne Golden, President and Chief Executive Officer of The Conference Board of Canada. “In a business where long-term planning is critical to success, he looks for solutions and thinks strategically. He is focused, fair-minded and innovative.”

TransAlta is one of North America’s leading power generation companies. Before joining TransAlta as President and CEO in 1996, Mr. Snyder was President and Chief Executive Officer of Noma Industries Ltd., and President and CEO of GE Canada.

Mr. Snyder also serves as Chair of the Calgary Stampede Foundation and Chair of the Alberta Secretariat for Action on Homelessness. He joined the Conference Board of Canada’s board of directors in 1995 and served as Chair from 2004 to 2006.

In 2005, he was awarded the Alberta Centennial Medal in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the province.

The Honorary Associate Award is the Conference Board’s highest honour, presented annually to a person who has served Canada and their organization with distinction during an outstanding career.
